Greetings, this is Dave, and welcome to another edition of Mighty Line Minute!

Did you know that this week in October is Fire Prevention Week?

That means it’s the perfect time to check your smoke and carbon monoxide detectors. Replace the batteries or install 10-year sealed units for long-term peace of mind.

Be sure to review your emergency exit plans with everyone in your household.

It’s important to make sure your fire extinguishers are up-to-date, properly maintained, and easily accessible. In case of fire or smoke, leave the building immediately—don’t hesitate.

Review your use of lithium-ion batteries—especially when charging tools, appliances, or e-bikes. Never charge batteries overnight while sleeping, or near combustibles of any type.

Here are a few more seasonal safety tips for October:

Make sure kids’ costumes are fire-resistant and don’t pose any visual or tripping hazards.  Get familiar with your trick-or-treat neighborhood or consider attending a safe community event.

Stick together—kids should travel in groups with friends or trusted adults. And if there’s a bonfire or party, go easy on the alcohol. Stay aware of your surroundings, and be especially careful while driving.

While the weather’s still good, don’t risk injury trying to hang holiday lights at elevations. Falls happen quickly, and the severity of an accident can come down to pure chance.

And finally, if you see something that doesn’t seem right—report it. That includes unusual behavior or even those strange, unexplained occurrences we sometimes experience this time of year.

Stay safe, take fire and life safety seriously, and we’ll see you soon on Mighty Line Minute - home of "The Only Durable Stripe!"
