In the late 1960s Les Emmerson was driving Route 66 in search of scenery when he found himself surrounded by increasingly forceful billboards and warnings. He pulled over, scribbled a few notes and captured the idea that became Signs, Five Man Electrical Band’s sharp protest against rules, fences, and restrictions.
After years of label changes, lineup shifts, and industry setbacks, the band recorded the song at Golden West Sound Studios in Hollywood with producer Dallas Smith. Though MGM Records first released it as a B-side, radio stations embraced it and Signs climbed to No. 3 in 1971.
The song endured because it tapped into a familiar feeling: signs can shape how people move, think, and respond. Some signs frustrate us, while others serve to guide, warn and protect.
In operations, that means using signs that are easy to recognize, durable enough for daily traffic, and clear enough to support safe decisions in real-time. Mighty Line offers adhesive floor signs for common workplace needs, including:
STOP. YIELD. KEEP CLEAR. FIRE EXTINGUISHER. WALKWAY. DOOR SWING. NO VEHICLE TRAFFIC. WEAR PPE. DIRECTIONAL ARROWS. And CLEAR LABEL PROTECTORS.
Mighty Line also offers customized ISO 7010 inspired floor signs that use international safety colors and symbols, including:
Green for safe condition and emergency equipment,
Red for fire equipment,
Blue for mandatory actions,
Red circle for prohibition, and
Yellow/orange triangles for warnings.
Mighty Line’s durable peel-and-stick floor signs help guide employees, visitors, and vehicle operators with clear, effective safety communication. When used as part of a 5S, Lean, or operational excellence program, they reinforce standards, improve visibility, reduce incidents, and support a safer, more organized workplace.
